Synthroid - Is this normal?

I tried taking synthroid after being diagnosed with hypothyroid disorder, but it makes my heart race. There's no way that I could be taking too much, because the doctor put me on the smallest dosage. I got off of it because I was scared that my heart was beating so fast, but now my thyroid isn't being treated and that's scary too. What do I do? I'm also gaining a bunch of weight.

The use of thyroid hormones is contraindicated (a reason to withhold a certain medical treatment) in patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency.

"Do you react with anxiety and heart palpitations when you take thyroid medication?

The most common explanation for this an underlying problem with adrenal insufficiency (cortisol and DHEA deficiency). Correct the adrenal problem, and then you should be able to tolerate thyroid medication." - excerpt from Sensible Alternative - thyroid disease article.

It could well be that in spite of taking a small dose to start, you could be having a reaction to the particular brand of med.  What is the brand name and what dosage daily?

If you look at this list of typical hypothyroid symptoms, which ones do  you have?

Also, please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges.
