weight gain

I am 55 years of age and have Hashimotos disease, my weight is low ,however despite exercise and normal eating, I cannot move weight from my lower body.  I currently take 100mg of thyroxine.  I am constantly hungry  experince joint pains and  puffiness and bloating. It is a  real battle to maintain my weight.  My doctor says my dosage of medication is correct and that I need not worry about the types of food I eat.  This is contary to what many books say.
Is anyone else in this position and if so do you have any advice. I am very despondant about my ionability to lose this weight and have exhausted all avenues available.

Thank you for your advice re foods which confirms my own research.  I will post my latest thyroid test results when received in the mail.Does anyone else experience swelling of the joints of the fingers or is this something unrelated I have yet to find an answer to? Doctor says its blood flow in the night but it wakens me with pain and is not confined to sleep hours.  I have been on the medication for over 9 years

How long have you been on the med?  What are your current thyroid levels (according to the lab report)?  If you have a copy of the report, please post the results of any thyroid tests performed, along with the lab's reference ranges. That will help members make more informed comments on your situation.

I disagree with your doctor -- there ARE some foods that you should not eat when taking thyroid med, such as raw broccoli, cabbage, etc as they can inhibit the absorption of your med.  You should also not take calcium or other supplements within 4 hours of your thyroid med.

Please post your latest lab results, with reference ranges if possible.
