weight loss after total thyroidectomy

I had recently had a total thyroidectomy in June, 2008, due to a nodule found in my thyroid.  I had a fine need biopsy done which showed it to be benign.  My doctor and I decided to remove the whole thyroid.  During the surgery, a few lymph nodes were removed along with a parathyroid gland (which was cut into tiny pieces and injected back into my neck).  I now have to take 25 mg. of Rocatrol and 4,000 mg of calcium carbonate per day or I get severe tingling in my face and hands.  In August of 2008, I received RAI treatment and a full body scan which showed no presence of any uptake near the thyroid region.  I am scheduled to do another body in September of 2008, unless the body scan shows anything, I will not have to go through the RAI treatment again.  I am currently on 175 mcg. of Synthyroid at this time.    My TSH was 0.02 on my bloodwork last week.  I am 5'5" and weigh 176 pounds.  I am continously gaining weight.  When I asked my endocrinologist about the tremendous weight gain she told me to join Weight Watchers!  As if this is going to work!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I have been exercising and eating healthy which is sometimes a problem because for the last 4 months I have been craving sweets.  Does anyone out there have any idea?  Could the addition of Cytomel held the weight gain?

Thank you for your response.  I will be those results from my doctor from the bloodwork which I had done a week ago and let you know.  I was told from my doctor that everything looked good.  I have plenty of energy but I am still gaining the weight.  Talk to you soon!

What was your Free T3 and Free T4?
I gained 16kgs before RAI in June 2008 and never started to lose any weight until my levels stabilised.
I was 55kgs prior to diagnosisi of Graves and Hyperthyroidism , was 71kgs when I had RAI done a year ago (TT sept. 2008) and am now just over 60kgs.
Its only the last few months that the weight has started to come off me by stabilising my levels.
I dont see your FT3 and FT4 levels here...were they done?
If not...ask for them to be done.
Dosing you on TSH alone is wrong.
