Please post recent thyroid labs with reference ranges.  Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.

Most of us found it nearly impossible to lose weight while hypo.  It's not until meds are adjusted properly for US that we are able to lose weight.  Keep in mind that just being "in range" on lab tests is seldom enough to relieve symptoms and increase metabolism enough to allow us to lose weight.

Are you currently on thyroid meds?  Do you have other symptoms besides inability to lose weight?

thank you thank you thank you for all the encouragement!!! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 years ago, i'm 33 now. i didnt think it was a big deal and i was a  bit erratic with my meds, experimented with homoeopathy for a bit and then it was on and off for a little while. at the time the doc put me on 25 mcg and when i kep bloating, i would read about how the meds just made u dependent on them etc...whereas homoeopathy offered a permanent cure. So the long and short and fat of it is i weighed 68.9kgs when i went to the endo and she put me on 100 mcg of thyroxin. i also gymmed and dieted and lost 3.2 kgs but then one week of relaxing and eating easy and up i went by 2 kgs again...What am i to do...this belly at my age is embarrassing!!

I agree with Gimmel.
I have started losing the weight but dont know if its from working fulltime or my levels stabalising.
I gained 16kgs (approx 36lbs) whilst HYPER (prior to RAI in June 2008).
When your levels are right , your organs function properly, your metabolism balances out and the weight will come off but SLOWLY and not drastically.
I got tired of the 'fat & frumpy' depression I went through and decided that if I was going to be 71kgs instead of 55kgs...then so be it and that people accept me as I am (as well as myself).
That attitude changed my whole way of thinking and my self esteem went to an all time HIGH.
Now I have started losing weight (i'm just over 64kgs now), I am watching that I dont lose too much as I was anorexic skinny and looked horrible when looking at past photos.
Worry about yr health and thyroid first and then the weight will start to balance out in time but dont expect miracles....it doesnt happen overnight unfortunately (being honest here).
Good Luck and try and take the attitude " What you see is what you get".
Thats the attitude I took and it worked.

It took me a year after my TT to get my medication dosage to where it leveled out my TSH. I did not really gain a lot of weight (if I did, i can't remember). I know I always maintained my weight usually between 115-120 (5'2). I think once your dosage is right where it should be you should be able to maintain your weight with proper diet and excercise.

Why are you taking Synthroid? I have been on Levothyroid for the last 15yrs.

If you are hypothyroid, then your metabolism is slower than it would be otherwise, thus a tendency to gain some weight.  If you are correctly tested and medicated, then as your body stabilizes,  metabolism should respond accordingly, and you should return to a more normal weight reflective of your body type and lifestyle. Typically these things do not happen over night.  This has been my own experience.

YES!  I dropped 25 lbs without doing anything any differently than I had been for years.  Leveled off after 25 and have maintained that for over a year (first time in my life!).
