Actually, your pcp can handle thyroid issues, so long as he does the right testing.
Are the T3 and T4, total or free? As Sally said, the totals are obsolete, so if those are total, please ask your doctor to run the frees. In addition, please post the reference ranges for the T3 and T4, as soon as you get them.
sorry for not putting this put there. The doctor only gave us a summary labwork (they write in what we are suppose to know). I will put a call into the office to get a copy of the actual blood work. The TSH is 4.040 value with (0.350-5.5). Also, can anyone give me a recommendation for a ped endo (not going to try and spell it) in the Tampa area. The current doctor is just a family doctor.
hi,
please post the reference ranges for these results. You son's tsh is a bit high. given his symptoms this should be looked into much more. The FT3 and FT4 should be in the middle to upper half of the reference range. If they are at the low end of the range, they are too low. Really normal TSH is probably between 0.5 - 2.5 (and the reference range for TSH is probably to broad).
Also he should be tested for FT3 and FT4, instead of T3 and T4 next time. T3 and T4 are outdated. The FT3 and FT4 show the actual bioavailable levels of hormone.
Others will chime in. But I think you are right to be concerned and looking further into this.
