I have had yellow/brown hands in the past and as recently as last year...I would wake in the morning and there on my palms and fingers but not the back of my hand. It would fade as the day wore on, not lasting as long as yours. I still have no idea what causes it.

Yellow discoloration of the skin may be associated with carotenemia (high intake of beta carotene-containing fruits and veggies), hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, liver disease, and renal disease.

While it's most likely caused by one or both of the first two, probably wouldn't hurt to talk to your doc about ruling out the others.
