Crawling sensation around surgical site

In early June, I suffered a subdural hematoma and went through a craniotomy to drain it -- my recovery has been going quite well, almost dramatic, and I have gone from being unable to use my right side to full functioning.  I seem not to have suffered long-term residual mental or emotional effects, either.  However, in the last few weeks or so, I've noticed a kind of crawling sensation around my burr hole.  It doesn't help that, a few days ago,  I tripped over my cat's water bowl and hit my nose on a ledge -- which is increasing my paranoia!  Is it normal to feel this kind of sensation at about this time after surgery?  I have no other symptoms -- no headaches, no paralysis, no slurred words or confusion.  My emotional state seems solid.

Thank you for your response -- I appreciate your advice concerning medications for neuropathy, but the site doesn't hurt -- it's just an odd sensation.  Could it be possible that this is related to nerve regeneration, or to my hair growing back in that spot?

Thanks so much --

Hi.

While surgery aims to physicall correct or treat diseases, it is unavoidable that some tissues can be sacrificed along the course.  In your situation, the superficial nerves in that area may have been injured during the surgery as well as their corresponding blood supply.  with this said, the nerve injury may become manifest in the passage of time and this symptom that you are experiencing may be a manifestation of such nerve injury.

I would still advise to you tell this to your surgeon and have the area examined.  If this is indeed neuropathy there are medications for this and should be well controlled.

Regards.
