Epidural Hematoma

I slipped about eight days ago and fell on my chin. I chipped a couple teeth (which are now fixed) and had to get six stitches (again on my chin). I didn't really hit my head all that hard but when I was taken to the ER they didn't do an x-ray of my head. It's now been over a week and I still have mild pain symptoms (my jaw still hurts from the incident) such as a mild headache and feeling a little groggy. At this point, would I know if I had sustained some sort of epidural hematoma? From all that I've read, it seems like those who don't know they have an injury slip into a coma, or have severe symptoms within a few hours or a day or two. Can the progression ever be slower?

Thank you very much for the information! I have gotten the stitches out and my doctor told me that all looked okay. I've been progressively getting better although still some pain in the jaw. I think I'll feel better once I'm at 100%! Thank you again.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you hit the jaw, had stitches, some pain can be expected. Also if you are on medications, it can make you groggy. If the temporo-mandibular joint is involved, it can cause headache too. If you have any other neurological problems such as blurred vision, hearing loss, unsteady gait or along with headache have vomiting then consult a doctor ASAP for evaluation. Otherwise when you will get your stitches examined, then discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
