Personality Changes

Are personality changes permanent after a TBI or do they improve or change as time goes by?  I see hint of my son from before his accident, but most of the time he is angry and so very different.  Mostly angry,  when he learns to deal and accept his life as it is now will he maybe be like he was before?  Kind, helpful, considerate, funny, ect...

Caleb had a complete check by a neuro-psychiatrist approx 8 months after his accident.  Testing took 3 days.  Outcome gave us insight into area in which we could help him.  Today 18 months after his accident his issues are different.  I will try to talk him into going through the testing again.  Right now I am terrified for his future, and am embarrased to say my own, because I will stay with my son until he no longer needs me to.  He was tested at University Hospital in Syracuse NY.  Excellent doctor.  Hope he will do a re-avail.  Happy New Year to YOU.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Whether the personality changes will be temporary or permanent depends on the site and degree of injury. Sometimes a person recovers and at other times the changes are permanent. Please consult a neuro-psychiatrist for complete evaluation. Take care!
