Hi,

How are you?
Your symptoms seem to be due to sinusitis. I would suggest you to take steam inhalation at least 3-4 times a day. Steam inhalation will help to liquefy the phlegm so it can flow out easily.
You can also take an OTC decongestant. See if it improves your symptoms. If there is no improvement please undergo a complete clinical evaluation by a physician. Take care!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

How are you?

Did you have common cold-like symptoms like stuffy and runny nose, sneezing, headache? It can be due to common cold, sinusitis, respiratory syncitial viral infection. Do you have nasal speech? It can be due to adenoiditis. Chances of upper respiratory tract infection are also there in your case.

Going by the symptom of sharp shooting pain in the head around the ear, chances of Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia can’t be ignored in your case. The glossopharyneal nerve, or 9th cranial nerve, supplies sensation to parts of the ear and throat. Certain disorders of this nerve may produce a severe pain syndrome. The pain comes in very brief episodes, but is very severe. There may be areas of the throat which act as trigger points, there stimulation bringing on the pain.

Signs and symptoms of glossopharyngeal neuralgia include very short bouts of severe pain that recur very frequently. The pain is usually located somewhere in the mouth or throat. Stimulation of those areas may trigger the pain.

Pls visit an ENT specialist/Neurologist for a confirmatory diagnosis and treatment will depend on the same. An MRI of the brain/Ear region may help.

In case you need any more information, please post us.

Take Care. Kind Regards.
