Generally, surgical intervention to relieve a hematoma, if initiated in a timely manner, has relatively insignificant mortality, nor is there a liklihood of damage to the brain itself. If a bleed continues and the mass enlarges and the blood congeals, the procedure becomes more complicated. In general, if a physician suggests you require intervention for a subdural hematome, other things being equal, you should not fear the procedure.
