AIR " after " Exhaling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed that when I go to bed at night that when I exhale, I still hear air coming out after I'm finished exhaling, if that makes any sense. Someone said, its air coming out of my tonsils, but it feels like it is coming out from the back of my throat. I have been to see a ENT and he didn't know what it was, he gave me an inhaler, but it didn't do anything. Does anyone know what could be causing this, it feels really strange !!!!!!

I do suffer from GERDS, and every once in awhile I'll wake up coughing from acid reflux, I already take Nexium 40mg, twice a day. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does its scary !

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
What you have is probably an expiratory stridor that occurs due to partial obstruction in the lower trachea or bronchi. Tracheomalacia is the most common cause of expiratory stridor. This can happen if there is external compression of the trachea or there is defective tracheal cartilage.  The other possibility is a strong gastro esophageal reflux (GERD) which is felt as a sound during expiration. You need to consult an ENT surgeon and rule out the possibility of compression on trachea. Also if you have acidity, heart burn, burps, chest discomfort then it can be GERD. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
