AbdominalPain

I've been having pain in the right side of my abdomen, upper and lower part, ever since i was about six. This pain comes, stays for about a couple weeks or months, then goes away. I've been to many doctors and hospitals, they cant find any reason for the pain. They prescribe me motrin 800m or vikodine 5m/500/. These pills don't work for the pain one bit. As I've gotten older the pain has gotten stronger. With this pain comes headaches and sometimes loss of appetite. It hurts when I take deep breaths and when I normally breathe. I also get back pain on the right side as well. This pain is so strong that I cant sleep at night, I've been getting very few hours of sleep from it. I just want to know what causes this pain and how it can be stopped.

Thank You

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
IBS or irritable bowel syndrome is a possibility. Keep a stress diary and note what you eat everyday. Then mark the time when you had maximum problem. See what you ate prior to that. You could be having food allergies like gluten allergy, lactose allergy or allergy to citrus fruits etc. Parasites in the gut, gallbladder and liver issues can also cause these problems. Please consult a gastroenterologist.
There is a possibility that you have colitis that gets exacerbated seasonally.
Other causes of pain in right abdomen I am enumerating. Most of it your doctors would have looked into. However please go through the list and see if something has been overlooked. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, ovary involvement in women, and mesentry (attached to the intestines) involvement can all cause lower right abdomen pain.
Right upper abdominal pain can be due to cholecystitis (inflammation of gall bladder), stones in gall bladder, or due to duodenal ulcer.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry for your undiagnosed pain.

Have you seen a Pain Management Physician?  If not I suggest that you consult with one.  There are so many possibilities that I could not guess what may be causing your symptoms.

I know it is disheartening to go from doctor to doctor and receive no answers but it's the process for many of us chronic pain sufferers. Keep searching and let us know how you are doing. We are here to support you.

Best of luck and take care,
Tuck
