My Mom's hand is fine. I never was able to convince (force) her to go to the docter. We were moving at the time and we basically had 3 days to pack our big house and move elsewhere. But at this point, her hand has healed and is fine, but he did leave a mark there. Thanks to anyone who replied. Sorry she wouldn't take the advice of either of us. :)
I hope your mothers hand is doing well.I have a stubborn mother also.Refuses med attention when needed.
Have your mom get it checked.I have a close friend that gotten bit by a family cat and ended up in the hospital for over a month. She had cat scratch fever, she lost over 70 lbs and has been left with several neurological problems now.
Animal bites, minor or not shouldn't be left unattended, especially when infected.
How is your mothers hand? Did she go to the clinic after work?
One: I am older than 18. If you would like to prove otherwise I welcome you to the challenge.
Two: I do not have too much time on my hands.
Three: I was never angry.
Four: Anyone who replied to this thread was in no way "Duped," decived, tricked, conned, misled, or fooled. You willfuly replied to what was written.
Five: Hey, Vampire Cat sounds quite nice. I'll dress him that way this Halloween.
Six: Who needs a six?!?! I already have five reletively good reasons.
Not me!! I think you are exactly right! Even if it isn't a kid, SOMEBODY has too much time on their hands. They really should respect the people who come here for real problems and will actually take the advice given. Advice and opinions you didn't ask for are one thing, to ask for them and then get mad about it? What's wrong with that picture?
Maybe duped. Sounds like a kid w/ too much time. Maybe Fluffy
will get a hair-ball & get care before Mom. 'Truth' needs to read Terms/Conditions/Rules. Must be 18 to post! Most cats are
better at pooping than kids. This one needs regular washings?
Maybe it's a vampire cat. Mom will enjoy Halloween! Now
everyone can pounce on me for being insensitive.
I think we've been duped!
"Please help me, please help me...more statements of please help me....
then...
I'm not 2, I know what "blah blah blah" is.
I know I've gotten 8 great samples of advice on this forum"
which is....
GO TO THE DOCTOR, EITHER FOR YOURSELF OR WHOEVER GOT BIT BY THE FREAKING CAT...
(at this point, I don't know who really got bit).
Demiguise is a smart person, and the advice was great.
It cracks me up when people come on here for advice, don't like what they hear, and then get mad.
I know what a domesticated cat is. I'm not two. And I'm three, four, five, six, seven, etc.
My mother was bitten by our cat when she tried to give him a bath because he had something on his posterior. She didn't listen to me when I told her how I do it.
At this point her hand, in my own opinion, looks infected. At this point, I, her boss, several of her coworkers, and the sight of her hand when the bandage was changed this evening, persueded her to go the the public health clinic if they're open when she gets off work. If not, she says she's waiting until her day off.
On the condition that she see a doctor, she refuses (to the satisfation of all who know our cat) to tell the truth, and will be going with the story that she was bitten by a feral cat that she found outside when she was trying to capture it.
Is this an OK story?
PS: Fluffy Says Hi.
Take the cat to a neighbors. Take mom to the Dr's & LIE! You
make the choice. Mom or Kitty? Fix the wound 1st & just lie
abt the cats location. No one knows the cost of rabies shots until they need them & depends on where you live. She will
probably get a shot & some pills & a hit on the head for waiting
to get worse. Just say a domestic cat (house cat). Dr will
determine if need to know abt the cat. Often a quarantine will
be at hm in a cage but I doubt this is that problem. It doesn't
sound like the cat was happy when he bit her. They learn by
what they get away with. Do you want a bite? Please re-read
posts & enough abt hiding Fluffy!
Well actually it wasn't my hand that was bitten, but I am essecially the secretary of my Mother who's hand was bitten. From what I have deducted she is in pain, when the hand is moved even slightly, although I don't know to what degree since it isn't my hand.
I've had my/our cat for 4 years and I/we got him vaccinated when I/we first adopted him. He has not had the yearly booster. I'm/we are worried about quarentine for him because I/we have an aquantance that once worked that the local animal shelter. I/we will spare you the details which are, in themselves, quite horrific in the opinion of many. To sum it up, I/we are quite sure that when we came to get him after quarentine, he would not be dead. Most people who have worked at this shelter will not report it because they fear for their lives. Just to give you an idea.
How much does a rabies series cost and will she be required to get one if she claims that she was bitten my a wild animal?
You must listen to the people posting to you telling you to get some medical help! You can catch some nasty things from cats, go RIGHT NOW if you haven't already.
If the cat has had all it's shots, why not just tell them the truth? This is crazy you would rather worry about the cat more than yourself and your health.
Please get some medical attention and come back and let us know what happened.
I think you need to think, then make a choice. Lose my hand &
keep the cat, or find out what's wrong & fix both problems. If
your cat has rabies, he's going to die & you could to. I don't
know how old you are but if you have kids, don't let them
near the cat. Is this a house cat or a mountain lion? Your on
the computer so why don't we assume your hand is still attached
& you're not in agonizing pain. Maybe put up a 'Beware of Cat'?
Use your phone & call a vet or health clinic. Gd-luck.
If I say the cat that bit me was a stray will I have to get a rabies series? How much do they cost?
The truth is, if it's your cat, cage it for now so no one
else can get bit till you find out how you are. Keep from kids.
Oozing/pus/infection & color change is serious enough to
require attn since pus doesn't form that quick in general. Cats
eat lizards/bugs/mice/rats. If they have those germs on teeth,
your punctures may spread into blood stream. If your loving
cat bit you that bad, cat may have an illness & you may need to
take to vets. A simple bite does hurt but doesn't flair up as
bad/quick as described. Just say friends cat so you have quick
access if need to take to vet. I've cat-sat for neighbors.
How are you doing? How is your bit wound? Did you go to ER for treatment?
sdp4314 is correct please follow the good advice and take care of you wound!
You might need a tetanus or booster shot. Gangrene might set in and you could lose hand.
Your cat will be ok!
ER won't normally ask you what animal bit you but you have to tell them it was a cat so that they can treat you accordingly. You can try to treat it at home but your discription of it sound bad. It's your choice. Good Luck!
Regardless of the cat, you need immediate medical attention. If you don't want to involve your cat, tell them it was a stray. You really can't afford to let this go! I've seen animal bites, spider bites and people that have just stepped on a nail and let it go unattended for too long. One of our patient's ended up with his foot amputated. I don't want to scare you, but you need to be treated ASAP!
Best of luck
Do I have to say what cat bit me? I'm not sure I want him involved....Is there any way to take care of it at home?!?!?!?!?!
A few years back I was bit by a dog on my own property. I went to ER and they cleaned the wound and gave me a tetanus shot. They didn't stitch it up because dogs have different bacteria than humans. If they sewed it up it could cause very bad infection so by leaving it open air could get to it and bacteria could escape. In my state and county they just quarantined the dog to its home until required day for rabies to show. If dog had rabies then they would treat me for rabies. Plus the owners were fined a few hundred dollars, I think (you won't be its your own animal). If your cat had rabies vaccination and you have proof, it probably won't be quarentined. I don't think ER has to report dog/animal bit unless rabies are involved. I called animal control myself before going to ER and told where the dog lived.
I suggest you go to ER now and get treated. It could turn serious, you don't want to lose the hand!
Good luck!
