Unknown Diease

I been to a doctor who couldn't give me any answers despite blood tests, don't know them all but he tested me for syphilis, and aids, (just standard procedure) and for some other diseases and still couldn't fine anything wrong, i also received a cat scan and x-ray for tuberculosis, and it was negative. My problem is that i have a hard time thinking clearly, i can actually feel my mind (literally) being consumed, and i say consumed simply because it feels as if something is eating away at it. I'm having difficulty speaking at times when its at its worse, concentrating, focusing, retaining new information and remembering the old. When i drink alcohol, it makes it 10 times worse, depending on how much I've drunk, but it doesn't take much, less than on small can of beer ( 8oz) it all it takes to make it worse. Also if i don't brush my teeth, floss and all, it worsens it as well, even eating something overly sweet or take in to much sugar for the day and i can barley stay focused. Not to mention if i catch a cold i become dazed and confused. Im positive it's some sort of bacterial infection of some sort. Kinda like someone who would have syphilis, or at least the symptoms are identical, maybe not as dramatic, but just to give you some idea of what it feels like on a day to day basis with whatever it is I have. With syphilis the bacteria seeps into your brain and eats away at your brain cells, that's pretty much what it feels like, no headaches or pressure, just a dull, numbing sensation.

I'm 22 (Male) and i doubt i have diabetes, I'm in fairly good shape, and no it's not depression, or some psychotic episode. The reason i mention alcohol at all is because, i usually drink maybe one or two beers a week nothing to heavy and only recently ( couple months ago) my symptoms worsened with its consumption, it feels like it speeds up the process of both symptom and consequence and usually wears off after a few hours, probably after the alcohol has run its course through my body. And like i mentioned if i don't adhere strict oral regiment, it causes even more discomfort. A take your typical multivitamin and eat a good variety of fruits and vegetables,  though i guess i could always eat more. Could be a liver thing, but like i said they've taken quite a few blood samples from me 9-12 in total. I'll ask what they tested me for on my next visit and post them here. Until then i hope you guys can provide me something concrete to build on. Thanks And hope to hear from you soon

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Has diabetes been ruled out? This should be checked first. It can also be chronic fatigue syndrome. This usually presents with widespread myalgia and arthralgia, headaches, chronic mental and physical exhaustion, cognitive difficulties, concentration difficulty and memory problems.
Then you also need to investigate other causes of brain fog like liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this. Hypothyroidism, Low Vit D or Vit B12 too could be the cause.
Hormonal imbalance in women due to either menopause or any other cause like PCOD should be investigated. In men this could be related to low testosterone.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

You didn't mention how old you were. Some mental illness symtoms do not show up until a person is eighteen or nineteen. I am not going to suggest any because there are many and I do not want to frighten you for no reason. Depression is one choice though. Have you had any life changing experiences such as a loved ones death, a divorce or break up? Have you been out of the country or someplace where you might have been exsposed to some sort of parasites? Did the doctor check your sugar levels. You probbly could benefit from s MRI as well. Don't give up -if one doc can not give you an anwser go to anther. I hope that you find out what's going onl.

I recommend you obtain copies of all the tests done so far. Try not to assign a diagnosis but list your symptoms without attributing them to a cause. Be sure you were evaluated for diabetes etc.
Bring copies to another physician (internal medicine) and list of symptoms.
Include how long symptoms have been going on and what makes it better or worse ie. food, sleep, morning, night time. Recent exposure to chemicals, life changes, new medications, drug use etc.
If nothing turns up this time or a conclusion is drawn with your complete honesty you may want to consult a psychiatrist for an evaluation based on your symptoms. Good Luck!
