Ferritin Level

Good Day,
My recent blood work came back with a ferritin level of 350ug/L.  Would this be considered high?  The doctor suggested I exercise more watch what I eat and come back 3-4 weeks for another blood test. Is this a normal course of action.  Finally If I'm able to should I donate some blood to bring the level down?  Thanks!!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Normal ferritin levels in male are 12-300 ng/mL. Hence your levels are only marginally higher. Ferritin levels are high in hemochromatosis, inflammation, liver disease, and some types of cancer, and in patients who have had multiple transfusions.

You can avoid these food items. Repeat the test as advised and in all probability the levels will come down. No, blood donation is not a solution for this. You would need to follow the dietary change.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
