Bruise to blister

DFN
I had a medium size bruise on my stomach (almost the size of a half dollar).  It was not the result of any pressure or injury or insect that I am aware of.  By the next time I noticed it, it was changing colors as bruises normally do when they heal. It then began to hurt with an INTENSE pain similar to a very bad burn and itched like crazy. It turned into a blister within a day and after about 5 days (covered). It slowly healed up but the color of my skin has changed. I have seen a lot of things in my life, but never anything like this.

What came out of the blister - and what color was the blister before it opened up?  Did you look closely for a break in the skin in the event it were a bite of some sort?

It sounds like Shingles.  Have you had Chicken Pox at any time in your life? Shingles is caused by the same virus. In fact, the blisters are contagious and will give chicken pox to someone who hasn't had it before who comes into contact with them.

You will probably want to go see your doctor. If it is Shingles, there is a vaccine to help prevent future outbreaks. I think there is also a cream to reduce the pain. It can be mild to debilitating. When he was middle aged, my grandfather couldn't work for a year when he had a bad outbreak.
