Burning throat

Just a few minutes ago I all of a sudden felt a burning sensation on the upper left part of my mouth near my throat.  While it was still burning, a felt a little bit of something ooze into my throat and I swallowed it.  (I am pretty sure it did not taste like blood.)  I tried drinking some water, but it did not help to lower down the pain of the burning.  This happens only once in a while; never often.  It stopped about five minutes after the burning started.  What might this be?

Hi, Maybe it could be acid reflux. This can cause burning in your throat, indigestion etc. If you think this is possible try taking some antacids eg gaviscon tablets are quite good I believe. Thats the only thing I can think of.

Since you relate that the burning is in the upper throat with some dripping sensation, acid reflux probably isn't your problem since it occurs in the lower throat. In early Spring and Summer a virus called the Coxsackievirus can be contracted.  This can leave blisters in the back of the throat.  Symptoms include burning sensation and dripping in the back of the throat without postnasal drip being present.  Another cause can be inflammed tonsils or early signs of Mono infection.  See your health care provider and get it looked at.

Thank you.  :)

I am going to schedule an appointment with my doctor to have my symptoms checked out.  I looked at the symptoms on Wikipedia for mono and some other things that I have fit in with it.
