Crawling sensation, bites, dark spots, but no insects to be found!

Hello all,
Just like most of you, i have been suffering from these - crawling sensation, bites, dark spots on face, back, chest, but no insects- for over two years now. I have tried a lot of different things but nothing seems to resolve the problem completely. Just last week, i moved into a new apartment. Before doing so, i took all the precautions i could -threw all my stuff away, kept my mattress (along with few other things i couldn't afford to throw away) outside in the deep cold (-20 F) for 2 weeks while i was away on vacation, but these animals survived! I put my mattress in a plastic protector before hauling it into my apartment, thought that would help! Bought new comforter, pillows, and bedsheets. Only slept okay the 1st night and then the nightmare continued! They are already spread like wild fire in my new apartment.
Just saw a dermatologist today for multiple dark spots on my face, back, chest, and now arms! He basically tried to convince me that i am crazy and should take some medication to redirect my brain, who is supposedly sending wrong signals to my nerves that things are crawling on me, therefore causing the itching feeling.
I am so tired of dealing with these little monsters! I can't wear any outfit that shows a little bit of skin anymore for i am covered with dark spots from scratching. If it wasn't for make up that i pack on my face, i wouldn't even be able to leave my apartment at all!
BUT listen up every body!!! LISTEN UP... THERE IS HOPE!!! Not that i have found the solution to this mysterious problem yet, i know i am far from that. In fact, i think just realized that these bugs are gonna be around for a lot longer than i thought after failing to get rid of them by moving and getting rid of all my stuff :(  But i know we are all gonna get through this, sooner or later. My faith is what helps me go though this, i believe in God and i know he saves. And so i pray that he helps us find a permanent remedy to this very unfortunate and miserable situation. So BELIEVE people! Have FAITH! Keep your HOPE(s) high! WE will get through this!
Thank you to all the wonderful people for posting what they have tried that has or hasn't worked. Compared to so many of you, i have done very little, so i applause you for trying so hard. I will get myself some Diatomaceous and some ACV  per your many recommendations. Will keep you posted on how that goes for me.

May God bless and heal each & everyone of us!

My daughter had that and it was bedbugs.  Lost all her furniture and anything that wouldn't fit in the washing machine and dryer.  It was awful.

Just read an older post you wrote and you have ruled out bed bugs, so ignore my above post. Hope you find an answer.

Are you absolutely sure you don't have bed bugs. They can lay dormant for up two a year I believe. I had a friend, the cleanest person you could think of and she had them a few years back. Although they hang around the bed in the seams of the mattress too, they come out at night and as I understand prefer going back to the sight they last fed from. My friend was in tears over this and of course she got her bed fumigated but she called me over as she was not convinced it had cured the problem and sure enough when we investigated there were still some living ones in the cracks of the wood in the bed. She had already dumped the mattress. She got rid of nearly everything that day, including the bed. They can get on your clothes so when I got home, I literally stripped as soon as I stepped inside. I could not bare the thought of them. She was a wreck but thankfully what she did solved the problem and they were no more. We believe she picked them up from helping out at a homeless shelter that might have had a problem but of course can not be sure. Good luck.
