ESR is high

hi,my mother is 62 years old , she has slight Rheumatoid arthritis and uses 1.25 mg ( quarter of prednisolone 5 mg) per day, she's new test shows ESR 1st hr : 34 mm/hr , it's three times more than normal.but other results are normal.I can't understand the prob.please help.

Her Doctor prescribed : Calcium , Hematinic,Vitamin B1,B6,B12 complex ,Ranitidine, before RA factor & Anti-CCP check but I am not satisfied.

you are right,like Anemia.but she has persistent RA ,I checked the records for 10 years and ESR just increasing stepwise but you're right we need RA factor and Anti-CCP as Pantx said.I will do it.thanks.

Have doctor check Anti-CPP and RA factor if those are elevated she may need to see a rheumatologist.  It is possible that her prednisone dose is too low or she needs to be on  a DMARD (anti-rheumatic drug)

Also, the ESR is a not specific test for inflammation. So, if she has any other inflammation in her body besides RA the ESR could go up. I don't know if this helps answer your question.

Thanks, unfortunately ANTI-CCP and RA factor is not tested ( mentioned test was for normal check up ), yes sometimes she has pain in fingers only .

what does her ANTI-CCP and RA Factor show? is she in any pain? She might need to go up on prednisolone
