Grandma's problem help needed

WIfe's grandmother has a problem..she is unable to swallow food or water due to excessive phlegm.. lungs are clear-suspected pneumonia though.

Currently nutrition through nasal tube..for food. Strangely docs aren’t telling us about what is the problem- she is 92 and currently is on powerful antibiotics..

Only the throat is blocked and she passes lots of Phlegm through her mouth  and has a bad cough even she drinks a spoon of water..

Can you please advise?

As you have been told that your wife's grandmother has lost the ability to swallow due to her advanced age, makes me wonder if she has Altzheimer's.

It is very common for people with Altzheimer's to forget how to chew and how to swallow.

Does your wife's grandmother have dementia that may now have become Altzheimer's?

Best wishes.

I am so sorry to hear that.  My mother is 95 and i worry about her every day.  It's so hard to let them go... I am not looking forward to the day when my Mom "leaves" me.

Thank you very much.

No that has not been told.

What we are now being told is that she has lost the ability to swallow due to her advanced age.
