Help

I have been suffering for over 6 months with diarrhea virtually every time I eat.  I have had my colon checked, my appendix checked, an endoscopy, stool samples on several occassions, blood tests for my kidney, liver, and  gallbladder, sonograms and all have come back normal.

When I eat, within 10 minutes to 2 hours later, I get a (what has become progressively worse) pain in my abdomen.  At this point it is a severe pain that lasts about 5-10 seconds.  Within a short time afterwards I have diarrhea that hits suddenly.

Even though my gallbladder tests came back normal, my doctor decided that it probably was a problem with my gallbladder and removed it approximately 3 weeks ago.  For about 4-5 days after my surgery, I had no symptoms.  However, it has all come back to the same intensity that it was prior to surgery.

Because of the uncontrollable diarrhea, I am afraid to leave my house more and more.  Does anyone out there have an idea of what could be happening to me?

Thank you.

Hello,

After reading your post,I feel that you may be having irritable bowel syndrome. It is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder of unknown cause. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits.

Irritable bowel syndrome can be a very difficult diagnosis to make. IBS is called a diagnosis of exclusion, which means that a doctor considers many other alternatives first, perhaps performing tests to rule out other problems.

Treatment includes addition of more fiber in your diet, cessation of smoking and taking stress, antispasmodic medicines, antidiarrheal medicines, antidepressants and new medicines like Alosetron (Lotronex) and Tegaserod (Zelnorm).I would suggest a gastroenterologist’s view on this.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any additional queries.
