im 35 yrs old and just found out that i have been suffering for 3 yrs of every symptom from having low ferritin level of 6 is this something that will be a life time struggle my pcp is referring me to have iron infusions just wondering how long are those Infusion and will i start feeling better soon????
I have been battling low ferritin levels for years. I am 39 have 2 children. For about 9 years since my youngest was 18mths I have had intermittent episodes which could last up to a month of feeling tired, lethargic, inability to think straight, lightheadedness and more. I also get heart palpitations and sore tongue. Im not anemic and my Hb is normal however my Ferritin is only 10. Can these symptoms be a result of the ferritin.I'm desperate I've had absolutely everything possible checked out and have seen more"ologists" than you can imagine. You advise would be appreciated
A low ferritin level is most commonly caused by iron deficiency. I agree with the colonoscopy and upper endoscopy as initial tests.
Yes, a low ferritin can also be associated with PLMS. This is due to the fact that PLMS is associated with iron deficiency anemia.
I am not aware of a hiatal hernia being associated with a low ferritin level.
Looking for the cause of the iron deficiency should be done, either with a GI or hematology referral.
