Lower left side back pain

I am an 18, almost 19 year old male.  I am 5'9" 155 pounds.

Over the last few days i have been experiencing a pain in the lower left side of my back.  At first is was a dull tight pain, just under the rib cage on the left side.  During the day after some ibuprofin, ice, and stretching it would go away.  The problem is each morning after i would wake up with more severe pain but mainly stil located in the same area.  This morning in particular it got about 10 times worse.  I could not get out of bed for 5 minutes and when I managed to fight through the pain and get to a mirror, my left shoulder was about 2 inches below my right shoulder.  When i tried to correct this it seemed like my rib cage was not directly over my abdomin area, but shifted a bit towards my right side.

Today any kind of stretching hurts, but in previous days i could roll my back over a stretching ball but it hurt to lay on my back and put my legs over my head.

Musculoskeletal pain can present this way, and it can be refractory.

I would be evaluated by a physician to determine if sciatica is present.  Most cases of sciatica, as well as musculoskelelal pain, improves on its own over a few weeks.  An orthopedic referral and physical therapy can help as well.

If the pain continues, an MRI can be considered.

Other considerations would be kidney diseases, like an infection or stone.  If suspected, appropriate imaging and urine tests should be performed.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
