Lump on Ribs! HELP

i'm a 24 year old female, & mother of 1.  about 5 years ago, i noticed a lump on the right side of my rib cage, almost on the side of my body, & about 2 inches below my right breast.  it moves very easily & i can't tell if it has grown since i first noticed it, so i'm sure it hasn't.  i asked a dr. about it when i first noticed it, but i can't remember who i saw or what they said.  occasionally i'll feel an ache coming from it, or maybe a light pain, but it goes away very quickly.  should i have this removed?  how will they remove it--will i have to be put under anesthesia?

I saw my doctor today & she referred me to a general surgeon...  I will be meeting with him in a couple weeks to discuss the removal process.  I'm scared!!  I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks for replying!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
In all probability the lump is a neurofibroma or a lipoma or a cyst. It can be removed under local anesthesia and sent for biopsy. You can also be given a mild sedation to overcome anxiety.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Wow I never thought I would be able to speak to some one about this problem.  I have the same issue.  I have a small knot on the end of my rib cage as well, mine is about 5-6 inches below my left breast.  I am unable to lay on my stomach for long periods of time and I cannot "twist" my body the way I used to before this knot, it does ache and moves slightly. I have had -rays and they found nothing.  Some people called it a calcium knot. (may want to Google that one).  The doctors however found nothing to be wrong. So I am guessing it's no big deal.  I am 24 and a mother of 3 boys.  I noticed it after my 1st child in 2003.
