Mildew/Musty smell to urine and body odor

Very recently (past 1-2 months) I’ve noticed an off-and-on mildew/musty smell to my urine. At first I noticed it almost every time I urinated, but now it can be normal for days or more than a week and only once smell like mildew, and the next time I pee it’s back to normal. It almost always looks the same when it smells like mildew - very pale yellow with a bit of cloudiness. Every other time I pee it is a normal yellow with no cloudiness.

I do not have PKU. I do have SIBO/IBS. I noticed today that my under arm odor also now carries a slightly musty smell which I’m certain it didn’t used to.

I currently don’t have health insurance and all I can find is liver disease. My liver had an ultrasound in the past 2 years and was completely normal, and I’ve had regular hepatic panels since due to a single time when my LFTs were elevated, just for peace of mind that it was a fluke. I did travel to Russia recently and prior to that I had a hepatic panel lab completed with normal results aside from high blood albumin.

I don’t drink much alcohol at all (one class every few months). I feel my right side has had possibly a mild pain occasionally lately as well as a slightly full feeling but that isn’t abnormal for my SIBO symptoms so it could just be general bloat and discomfort that I feel throughout my abdomen regularly.

Curious what I should think about this cause it’s kind of freaking me out a bit. I hear liver disease usually only causes this smell in end stages and I feel that’s impossible for me even if I could have contracted something like hepatitis within the past 3-4 months travelling abroad.

Hello~Are you drinking enough water? Sometimes dehydration can cause symptoms similar to yours. Have you had a blood panel run to see how your kidneys are functioning? I feel you should see a physician for some of these tests and to rule out anything serious.

I would also add pure cranberry juice to your diet, this is a great kidney cleaner, and the herb Parsley root. Both can be purchased at a health food store.

I hope you feel better soon. God bless you.

"The lining of your small intestine is very thin; it’s only one cell thick. The excess bacteria in the small intestine of someone living with SIBO cause inflammatory damage to the lining of the small intestine. The damaged, leaky gut now absorbs those toxins, plus other wastes. They get into your bloodstream and travel straight to your liver. It’s not surprising then to learn that SIBO is a strong contributing factor to liver inflammation and fatty liver."*

This may be true, but from what I gather the mildew smell usually only occurs in late stages of liver disease, not just from liver inflammation? I could be wrong.

I do notice I gets worse if i eat sweets. Could be coincidence but I don’t eat sweet too often and sometimes if I eat a lot of sugar at once (bowl of ice cream) I get the symptom. Sometimes I don’t. When it was happening at first, though, I was having small candies every day with tea after meals.
