More then Chronic Fatigue

My sister was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue  6 months ago but has been suffering from the symptoms for over a year. Mostly the reason for CFS is the fact that she will sleep always with out her meds and the constant fatigue.  She fears she has something more then just CFS but her doctors are at a loss as to what to do now since most tests came up negative except ANA came up high positive (homogeneous pattern 1280 titre), BUT came up negative for any disease related to that high positive ANA.

Some of these symptoms may or may not be related. Some have been before and some after the fatigue.
Symptoms as follows: dizziness (vertigo, light headedness, faintness),short term memory loss, difficulty concentrating (symptoms similar to severe ADD) best way to describe would be loss of cognitive ability. Frustration and depression linked to her inability to communicate properly. Weight gain. Co-workers commented she was yawning constantly prior to taking gabapentin. Almost daily headaches and possibility of monthly headaches severe enough to be hospitalized.

Some medical history: Three years ago she was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, handled chemo and radiation with less exhaustion then current condition. Her oncologist has stated this is not chemo related. Was healthy and had been back at work a year before fatigue hit in.

She has been the one to find her cancer and had delt with it well, even with doctors not wanting to belief she had breast cancer at 28 years old. The fact that her doctors are unable to find out what is wrong with her is causing her to be quite upset and fearful that this could be serious and that nothing will be done in time. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you have further questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks.

The question would be do any of you have any idea what this could be or any test that might help find out?

Doctors seen/seeing: rheumotologist, Neurologist (waiting to see), oncologist, and GP

Has she been evaluated for sleep disorders? The following symptoms you mentioned could be related: Sleepiness, fatigue, short term memory loss, difficulty concentrating, cognitive impairment, communication problems, depression, weight gain, headaches,

If the above tests recommended by the doctor rule out anything of a medical nature going on, maybe a sleep study could be of some help. Something to discuss with her doctor.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
I can understand what you and your sister are going through. Has brain metastasis been ruled out in your sister’s case? That could be one of the reasons for this problem. Was MRI of the brain done? Also if 3 years back they were negative, you should get a repeat analysis done now. Also since she went through so much at such a young age, was brave enough to take it, depression can set in. Try an evaluation by a psychiatrist. Hormonal disturbance can be another reason. Maybe a complete hormonal panel should be done to evaluate her hormonal status.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Maybe during the course of our conversations, we can come up with something. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
