Nails stopped growing

My thumb nail stopped growing over 2 years ago.  The skin that used to be covered by the nail is getting calloused.  The very edge of the nail will grow a little bit, just enough where it catches on everything.  It is vey hard to file it down.

The thumb in the picture looks very red on the top nail edge which could mean there is an infection or inflammation.

I presume that you do not bite your nails or there is no chance that you may be biting the nails in your sleep?

Finger nails usually stop growing when your body is lacking in minerals and vitamins.

Make an appointment to see your doctor who will be able to prescribe an antibiotic cream if he feels it is infected.

Keep you hands covered with latex free gloves when washing dishes or using chemicals to clean.  Apply lots of moisturising cream to your hands and nails - even virgin coconut oil is brilliant; and wear cotton gloves at night to allow the moisturising cream to soak into your hands and nails.

Don't use any harsh chemicals on your hands.  Wear protective cloves when filling the car with fuel.  When you see your doctor, ask if he can order a blood test to check your Vitamin D levels to see if you need to have a supplement of that Vitamin and also eat jelly (jello).

Have you seen a dermatologist about this? I would do that for a start if you have not already done so. I honestly do not know what could be the cause of this.
