Please Help.

I've always had somewhat irregular periods for all of my post-puberty life, and it never bothered me until now. Last May I had a kidney stone, and afterwards, my cycle and everything has been completely messed up. I'll bleed for nearly a month straight, not a regular flow, but intermittent between heavy to almost nothing on any given day. And when not actually blood, there is a brownish sort of discharge. Intercourse, when managed to be had, is often painful. This has been going on since last October, and having been 9 months of this, it's getting really old. I've gone to the OBGYN, and gotten a check up, and there was no abnormalities that came back. I also got a bunch of blood drawn for other tests that nothing came of except that I have a very mild form of diabetes. The past week or so it has gotten worse, a constant achy sort of pain around the area of my left ovary being present. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Hi,

As rightly mentioned there is a possibility of polycystic ovarian disease as suggested by symptoms of irregular bleeding and pain in the ovary. Did you undergo an Ultrasound or CT scan of the abdomen?
I would suggest you to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist as you need to undergo CT scan of abdomen.
I would also suggest you to get your thyroid checked as well.

Irregular periods and tendency towards diabetes sound very much like symptoms of Polycystic Ovaria Syndrome.  With all the bloods, I would hope hormonal levels were checked, if not this needs to be done.  Also a transvaginal ultrasound would show a clear picture of your ovaries.  Alternatively this could be endometriosis, the painful intercourse and brown discharge point to ths as a possibility.  Often when the endometrios bleeds into the sacro-ilial ligaments at the top of the vagina (pouch of douglas)  this can make sex very painful.  This can only be diagnosed by laparoscopy.  Sometimes signs such as a retroverted uterus can indicate that endometriosis is present, this will show up on a regular scan.  Constant bleeding is an abnormality, and if the tests done so far have not yielded results, then that does not mean all is fine, it means the wrong tests were done or the results not interpreted.  If your obgyn is dismissive, it is your right to get another opinion.  Meanwhile make sure you are not getting anaemic with all this blood loss.  And also perhaps with the diabetes ask for the opinon of and endoctinologist.  I wish I could remember another similar post where the lady also had a kidney stone, and someone responded with a very interesting possiblity.  Have a look up your symptoms in the search pages and you may find it.
