pain in upper arm

hi,my mother has pain in upper arm midway between shoulder and elbow on the outer side.she has developed pain after her husbands death.pain is severe in intensity not relieved by any massage or medication.pain sometimes extends below the elbow as well.pain appears as a sharp deep attack and relived after 5min.there is also limited range of movements on the opposite side and upwards.there is also decreased power and nimbness at night.we need your help in making a diagnosis.....regards

This may be due to spondilosis. Consult a neurophysician.

There are a couple of reasons this may be happening. One is torn rotator cuff muscle which causes the symptoms described here. But many other issues can have the same symptoms. Unfortunately, the docs are likely going to require exrays and/ or an MRI to diagnose. They may make their best educated guess and treat her with hopes of relief.
