Hello,
I feel that breast lump in your case may be due to hormonal changes taking place in your body as a result of pregnancy and lactation. What is the size and consistency of the lump?
Various other possibilities of breast lump are breast cancer, breast cyst, fibroadenoma, fibrocystic changes, intraductal papilloma, lipoma, mastitis, milk cyst (galactocele) and phyllodes tumor.
Given your age and history of recent pregnancy, chances of it being a galctocele and fibrocystic change are more, but given your family history of breast carcinoma, chances of breast tumor or cancer cannot be ignored. Are there any other symptoms and signs?
I sincerely advise you to take a second opinion from a gynecologist and get a clinical examination and mammogram done to confirm a diagnosis.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries
Hi
Thanks for writing.
I am sure that since you have a family history, you know that a breast lump cannot be ignored and you are right in seeking professional help immediately.
In most lactating mothers a lump forms after stopping breast feeding, which is usually a collection of milk. This is technically called galactocele. This is what your doctor could have suspected and advised hot compress for.
Other causes are lipoma (collection of fat tissue), fibroadenoma (collection of fibrous tissue) and as you know cancer.
I am sure on your next visit, further investigations like a FNAC or mammography may be done since the lump has not resolved. Please check if you have any lumps in the axilla (under arm) region. Since you have a family history it will be advisable to get a mammogram periodically after consultation with your doctor.
However it is difficult to diagnose without examining. So please consult your doctor.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Please keep me posted.
