Strange burning pain that comes and goes and is moving.

It started 4 weeks ago, I woke up in the morning and had a subcutaneous burning pain on my 5th rib up from the bottom. I am on a $2500 deductible so want to avoid visits. It was about the size of a quarter.  Give it a few days I said, and it lessened in severity and after 2 weeks was gone. Then woke up to a similar pain farther towards the center of the chest but covering a 3 inch pain, it dissipated after a week, then woke up with a similar pain yesterday covering a 6 " area North and south closer to the center of my chest approaching useless man nipple, and it is dissipating. No rash, no swelling, the pain is worst in the morning and gets better through the day. My first thought is shingles without rash, I am willing to let it go and avoid med expense for tests of a 3 to 5 pain scale malady that occurs, then dissipates, but the fact it keeps reoccurring with in line with the previous has got me wondering if this is something I need to treat.

I have to think it is a nerve type pain, It Is dissipating, but about 4" north and south, maybe 1/4 inch wide. Totally in the soft tissue above the ribs, thanks for the thought.

If it's triggered by movement of your arm, it could possibly be muscle related.  You have muscles between your ribs and you could have "pulled one" any number of ways.    If you don't want to go to the doctor, you may try to pay special attention to any repetitive movements on that side.  Since it is on your left side it's probably not gall stone.   If you are having ANY sort of respiratory issues, it is possible to have some pneumonia.  Some patients who have pneumonia don't actually have a cough or anything like that, but they complain of a pain in their chest and the doctor will order a chest xray " just to see what's going on" and find they have pneumonia.  Just something to think about..

No other symptoms. It is on the left side, pain today 40% of what it was yesterday. I know if I had a reasonable copay, but not a monster in the closet  deductible I would, but fear spending $2500, maxing out my deductible for inconclusive tests. Thanks for the reply.

Do you have any Nausea/vomiting or other symptoms??  Also, just to clarify, is this problem on the  right or left side of your chest? Because, if it is on the right, i sounds like you could have gallstones.  I had to have my gallbladder removed for stones and Had been going through similar symptoms....they would come and go....they were never in the same place....sometimes the pain was more acute then others.  Because it IS recurring... I would at least call a doctor and let them know what is going on.  Hope this helps you out some :-)

Additional info it is not a constant, but triggered by movement of my arm.
