Thank you for your answer. Since I posed the question, I have had an MRI done and found out this, I wrote it down and sent it to my home email address when I was told by my doctor:
I have a large disk that is herniated out and is squeezing a nerve. If it is left alone, permanent damage would occur to the nerve. He said the nerve is pretty impressive (his words), needs to be fixed right away, and that it is a microscopic incision that needs to be done for the surgery and they cut off part of the disc. He said that they usually do not call his office on MRI results but it was so impressive that they felt that time is of the essence.
The surgeon office I will be going to called: I am going there 8-30-10 for a consultation. Again, thank you for your answer.
could be siatica...its worth seeing ya doc..gud luck
Acute vascular occlusion is an artery blocked by a blood clot. The clot interrupts blood flow to tissue, which can tissue death from the lack of oxygen and nutrients the blocked blood supply would have brought to it.
Assuming from your title the clot is in the leg, according to a website, symptoms are: absent pulse in the foot on that side, pain, numbness, paleness, and weakness in the body part where the clot is.
Treatment is either surgery for clot removal or trying to dissolve the clot with thrombolytic therapy. Are you getting treatment?
Hello Ronnocinc,
This is from a trusted site: "Symptoms of a vascular occlusion include pain, numbness, weakness, and paleness of the part of the body that receives blood from the artery. Symptoms of a vascular occlusion in a leg or arm also include an absent pulse in the foot or wrist."

Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Pain from buttocks down to the foot can be due to compression of the spinal nerves in the lumbo-sacral spine region. This can happen due to overuse of the lower back as in work requiring too much of bending, lifting weight, fall on the back, overweight, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc. Poor posture while sleeping, sitting on computers or jobs for a long time, uneven bed, exposure of back to cold air while sleeping can cause a discomfort for a few days. Take a multivitamin, plenty of fluids, and an OTC analgesic. Apply a local analgesic and sleep with a hot water bottle and see if it helps.
A MRI of the lower spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, lumbar belt or even surgery.
It is unlikely to be due to acute vascular blockage but if MRI of spine is normal, then this would have to be looked into.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
