Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

I am 43yo male, and recently had US and CT scan of the neck to investigate two swollen lymph nodes which were present for longer than a year in my left neck. Several nodes were found on the jugular(mid) chain, many sub-centimeter and 5 >= 1 CM the largest ones were 2.26, 1.65 and 1.55 CM. They are on both sides of the neck and under my chin as well. Nothing else was found in CTs of abdomen and groin. I have a biopsy scheduled for next month, but have read myself into anxiety attacks. I have read that anything above 1 CM is abnormal. I have no pain in the nodes themselves but have developed pain in the neck which seems like a stiff neck, and pain exists with any pressure from straining or lifting, also movement related pain in neck, chest and spine in the same region. No signs of infection at all, but do have extreme fatigue, back pain, some weight loss, among other varied symptoms. My Primary Dr said since no other enlarged nodes were found in other regions, he is not concerned about lymphoma.

Are there other conditions that could cause lymph nodes to be swollen for this length of time? Should I be as concerned as I feel about this, or is it more likely not related to something  serious? Is it possible to have lymphoma without nodes in other regions showing signs? Are biopsies only done when cancer is suspected? Any other info or suggestions are welcomed, I am not usually one to worry about such things, but for whatever reason this has me having some anxiety waiting for the biopsy.

They didn't find any enlarged lymph nodes in my body, he was just using his hands though to look for bumps and not the CT scans. I'm still waiting for the call about my blood test result and hope there is nothing serious. I don't have any other lymphoma symptoms aside from occasional headaches that don't stay for long, no night sweats, no weight and apetite loss. I still have the cravings for food. Although lately I had this pain on my lower abdomen which the doctor caught for a potential UTI and i'm treating it with antibiotics.

I have read about all these people with a lot of the same symptoms that I have.  I am a 30 year old female.  For the last couple of years I rarely feel good!  I am extremely tired all the time with no energy.  This last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (diagnosis was in June)  Then in July I noticed that I had swollen glands in my thrat.  They put in on antibiotic and on I went.  In September I went back and they sent me to an ENT doctor who told me that the swollen gland was actually a blocked saliva gland.  So he told me how to treat it so on I went.  Then in the end of October I had my gallbladder removed.  After all this and my glands were still swollen.  I had an appt last week with my ENT doctor who ordered a CT with contrast on my glands (in my neck).  Today the results came in and he told me that I have swollen lymph nodes on both sides of my neck.  He didn't give me sizes but, did tell me that the one on the left side of my neck is laying on my caratoid artery.  I told him I am concerned becasue I know that they are swollen under my arm pits and in the groin area as well.  He told me most likey from a virus.  I am sick at least every three weeks.  I never have fevers, but do have itchy legs.  I am more concerned with it being a gland problem rather than cancer.  But, any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Heather

Did they find any other nodes?  If it has grown over the past 2 years as you've said it has I'm suprised they didn't want to biopsy it... from what I've heard if it's about 2cm and growing that's cause for concern and they look into it further.  But if you don't have any other symptoms of lymphoma I think you should be OK, it may just be an infection.  I think your CBC will expose any issues if you have any, which will be good.

I went to see the doctor and what he did is:
Looked at my lymph node
Asked questions like how long it's been there, Do my family have history of cancer.
Checked every part of my body if there are any other swollen nodes.
Urine test, which saw borderline to urinary track infection and issued prescription

I still have to submit for blood test (CBC) tomorrow.

He said some lymph nodes swell and don't seem to shrink back to it's normal size. He told me if there is any growth in the node over time then I should see him again.

I am thinking of having this biopsied. I don't know, but looks like I am not satisfied on the exam that he did but I am less worried now.
