Very worried

My sister in-law who is 21 had a baby a year ago and had some kind of birth control put in to her arm. At first every thing seemed normal but know she went a while with no period which led her to believe that she was pregnant. After several test coming up negative she finally got her cycle but it has been very heavy and painful and yesterday she passed a clot about the size of a grapefruit and has been having a string substance along with her very heavy bleeding.....what could this be caused from? Could it be the birth control or could she have had a miscarriage? Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks :)

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
It is really difficult to say whether it was the affect of the birth control or miscarriage. If this happened just recently, let her take a beta HCG test. If this is on higher side, then it was miscarriage. Otherwise, it is the effect of the hormones of birth control. Let your sister in law consult her gynecologist. Take care!
