Vitamin D connection?

My husband is 63 years old.  He has been taking Levothyroxin 100mcg for about 15 years for hypothyroidism, and has been feeling really well.  I should mention that he also takes 5mg. prednisone daily for ulcerative colitis.  About 3 weeks ago, it was determined by blood test that he had a vitamin d deficiency, and his doctor put him on 50,000 iu of vitamin d per week.  Very gradually he has started to  have extreme anxiety, and trouble sleeping.  This is something he has never had before, and it is very baffling, he is not under any particular stress.    He had his thyroid checked yesterday with a blood test, and the test came back normal.    Any suggestions?

I take 1000-2000 iu daily.  (sometimes I forget) I think that is much better than doing large dosage at once.  My dr. suggested it could lead to toxic amounts and calcium and d would need to be checked frequently.  Good luck!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
What about parathyroid gland? Get his parathyroid tested and serum calcium too. Recheck the blood vitamin D levels. Maybe he is getting a higher dose than needed.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your husband’s doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
