Vivid Dreams cause of excessive sleepiness

For years I have been "suffering" from excessive dreaming. I have dreams that are extremely graphic, detailed and vivid. Most of the time I am aware that I am dreaming and cannot wake up. It does not occur every night, but several nights a week. I wake up feeling EXAUSTED. I nod off during the day, cannot keep my eyes open. Last night (for example) I got 8 hours of sleep and yet today I'm so tired I could cry! I should also mention that I fall asleep almost instantly and I dream as soon as I fall out. There are some days where I "fall asleep" here at work and begin to dream instantly, it's almost as if It's an instant hallucination. My husband says I'm lucky to fall asleep when I hit the pillow but I'm to the point where if sleeping makes me THIS tired I don't want to. The dreams are often traumatic and I'm tired anyway. What's the point of sleeping?!

I'm not suffering from depression and I have a regular schedule in terms of sleep (Usually get at least 6.5 - 8.5 hours a sleep). My diet is pretty good and I get an average amount of excersize. Everything I do is in moderation (no drugs either, btw).

Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this? Why am I dreaming so much and why do I feel exhausted after a "good" nights sleep?

Perplexed,
Ms.April

Hello Everyone,

I definitely agree with everything you said RemyStar and matbar I agree with the fact that dreams are probably preparing us for something to come or at least something similar to it mentally or physically.

About me; I am a drug user, smoker and a drinker. In all honesty (I have no one to impress in this forum), this doesn't mean I do these things all the time... when it's time, I engage in these activities. I wouldn't say I am an addict. So, don't get a picture where a drug user who lost his life to drugs rather using them as if they are alcohol or cigarettes...just to enhance certain situations. However before that I was a top athlete for 16 years and that physical shape and mental discipline is still with me. I am also in a creative profession, with an undergrad and grad degree. I speak two languages fluently.

In my whole life I have been having these sort of dreams, as well as sleep walking. Not every night but in certain periods of my life. Like you experienced matbar; when I was 5 years old, for some reason I broke the feet of a coffee table which was apparently on my way when I wanted to sleep walk. As I was told by my grandma, I simply kicked it and broke the leg. I didn't feel it at that time nor when I woke up. There was just some bruising. I know that at that age I would never think that I could break anything, especially since I was/am never violent or like to punch or kick at any time, even though I am strong physically. Around the same age I also wanted to exit our apartment while sleep walking which was located in a city, which would have left me sleep walking on the streets. Seems that I couldn't figure out how to unlock the door and/or my mom caught me trying to do that.

I recently started dreaming a lot more frequently and continuously, I dream a bit then wake up for a second then I close my eyes after a short time and it continues. Last night I was able to time travel myself in my dream to prevent what I've seen happening 5 minutes later, which I traveled a couple of times back to past. The last time I traveled back when everything seemed ok, someone else from the future came and told me, "a lot has changed in 100 years" and this person felt like me but I wasn't sure. Then he divided himself to two people, one being like a soldier like look and the other more of a civilian. The soldier like human opened a portal and went somewhere, perhaps time traveled somewhere. There was a lot more happening in this dream, and in my opinion kind of indicated that I am hanging out with the wrong crowd to me, at least that's what I felt in the dream as well as after waking up and after thinking about it.

In short, I don't feel like these dreams are being caused by a health problem, completely agreeing with RemyStar. We are given something that most people don't have, we need to make more of it, we need to understand it. Perhaps it's real, perhaps it's only intented for some people who are worthy of it, who are curious and not ordinary enough to understand it or at least willing to understand it.

On another note; if you feel something is "wrong" with you mentally or physically perhaps you are not the intended receiver of this ability. Perhaps some of us has this ability and the only ones who can solve it will receive the benefit of it. Because I have no physical issues, I eat well because I am used that from my athlete background. Just because you are feeling and experiencing things out of the ordinary you shouldn't assume that you are "dysfunctional"... this would be like being a racist person. Such as saying a black person is bad because his/her skin color is different and they should be treated to become white. No... all humans are different than each other in all kinds of capacities and we have no idea what these are, why and how this happened. And most importantly when will these seemingly annoying or not so important abilities will come in to play, if ever.

I also have experienced life long vivid dreams and precognitive dreams.  The most terrifying one I had was when I was "sleep floating and/or flying" (those of you who have had that experience know what I'm talking about).  In this particular dream, I was floating, looking down at my body; I could actually feel the texture of the ceiling on my back as I kept bouncing against it.  Then, looking down at my body, I felt cold needles start to penetrate my neck.  I woke up.  That dream has THANKFULLY never recurred.  I still remember every single second of it, it was that horrifying.  I'm going to give Lucid Dreaming a try.  Perhaps I can learn to manage them.  This is an awful condition to suffer from.

Boy, are there a lot of us.  And most of us probably won't get help from the medical community.  My experience with medical has been awful.  It really ***** to know something is amiss, but not get any help from doctors, after spending $$$$$ to get help.  I, for one, have completely lost faith in traditional medicine.  It doesn't help that I became disabled at work, and have now had my health insurance terminated, and my job creatively erased by the powers that be.  So, I can't even get a sleep study.  Lots of worries.  Chronic, disabling illness and injury has destroyed my health and happiness.  I know those don't help with sleeping, but I actually had the problem BEFORE the disability.  Now, I just have to live like this and hope I don't die.  I don't know if lack of quality sleep and excessive, traumatic dreaming can kill you, but the fact that FEELS like it is kill you is pretty significant.  It would be an interesting study to see how many people who are in jail are there because lack of sleep has made them nuts, and driven them to crime.  I bet there are quite a few ...  I keep telling myself that the Lord (or whomever your higher power is) doesn't throw stuff at you that you can't handle, but perhaps the lack of sleep is causing me to hallucinate THAT thought as well.
