Been through this too many times (shudder). My last cyst that ruptured left over a liter of fluid and blood in my abdomen. Best thing to do is get her to a good OB/GYN as soon as you can. The ER is great when the rupture happens (insist they do an ultrasound) but she needs a good OB/GYN to follow her. I didn't have a good one and my recurrent cysts ended up costing me both of my ovaries (last one out in January this year - with a hemorrhagic cyst the size of my hand surrounding it). She needs to get checked out for infection, polycystic ovarian disease, etc.
It might be suggested that she go on birth control pills (ovulation involves cysts), Metforman, etc. There are also some nasty meds out there that quite a few docs wanted to try on me so check out the meds before she takes them (I didn't find the right OB/GYN until the 6th one I went to).
Good luck and yes - IT HURTS! Don't let her carry heavy things for a couple of weeks 'cause she will be quite sore. My salvation was a heating pad on my abdomen.
This did happen to me many years ago. My cyst ruptured while I was at work. I collapsed in pain and was sent to the E.R. I was treated with pain meds and sent home. I began to get very sick and two weeks later I was doubled over in pain and very weak. Turns out that all the fluid from the cyst had infected practically everything "down there!" I ended up spending three days in the hospital iand was put on an intense regimin of I.V. antibiotics. I would suggest that your girlfriend get checked back out IMMEDIATLY, she could be suffering from a major infection at this time. Don't let this situation go - get her taken care of as soon as possible and GOOD LUCK!!!!
try posting the same ? on one of the women's forums
