Could all these symptoms be related?

I've been suffering from various symptoms over the last several months. I don't know if they are related or not, but they have begun to become worrisome. Starting last winter, I was diagnosed with severe dry eye, went through some treatment, but had to stop that treatment when my insurance changed with a new job. That have recently gotten worse, and are very sensitive to light and air, and they are always red and burning. I'm tired all the time. Constantly feel like I could just close my eyes and sleep for days. I broke out in hives for the first time in my life 6 weeks ago, and they still take over if I don't take my allergy meds. I have no motivation, no energy, no anything. I also have a slight swelling at the base of my throat. Any ideas? Could they be related, or just coincidentally happening all together?

There's a slight swelling at the base of my throat, especially on my right side. It doesn't hurt, and it's not sore, just swollen a little. I've noticed that I'm thirsty all the time, though, and have upped my water intake.

Hi,

Congratulations on the good news!! Good wishes from all of us for your future!!

Well, it is nice to hear that your symptoms ahve strated to resolve, and that you have consulted a doctor about the symptoms you are having.

Keep washing your eyes frequently and you could use some tear drops , till you get to see your doctor for an appointment.

You should try some warm saline gargles and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Could you please elaborate on the throat symptoms a little.

Let us know if you need any other information.

Keep us posted.

Regards.

Ok. I transferred my records to a new doc's office here (about a week or so ago). I am to wait for him to get back to me and schedule an appointment that will still be 3-4 weeks out. Some good news, my hives and most of the other symptoms have cleared up. Eyes still bothering me a lot, along with the depression, and swelling in my throat. I will update again when I finally get into the actual office.

P.S. I just got engaged last week! Wanted to share!

Hi,

It would be best to see a general physician first as he / she would go through your previous records and get the necessary basic investigations done. Also, he / she would know the best specialist in that part of the town.

You would also benefit, in that you would have a rapport with him/her for future consultation, if required.

Post us about what your doctor advises.

Let us know if you need any other information.

Regards.

So, at this point, do you think it would be better to see a General Physician to talk about all the symptoms, or to see an allergist? I do not have a doctor right now. I recently moved, and so will be looking for new doctors. Just wondering which you suggest finding first.

Hi,

It is difficult to say for sure, however the conditions you have described may be related to conditions called Sarcoidosis or another condition called Keratoconjuctivitis Sicca. These conditions are immune disorders and they could be associated with thyroid disease (which I think could be the swelling at the base of the thyroid). Hives is also an immune reaction and therefore all of these conditions are associated with a common immune dysfunction.

I would advice you to keep the eye moist using pads and lubricants to the eye. You may also need to see your physician who can bring all these together using relevant tests or examinations.

hope this has been useful to you. let me know if you need any more information

Best regards
