What could this lump be on my leg?

8 months ago I discovered a small lump about the size of a  pea on my upper thigh. It was painless so I kinda ignored it but it keeps getting bigger. It's now about the size of a flattened golf ball but not round. Maybe 2"x3" or so and .5" thick maybe a little less. Just had an MRI without contrast that didn't even show a lump at all but it's OBVIOUS without even feeling it. My first thought was lipoma but it grew so fast and large that I got worried. Doctor (gp) doesn't seem concerned but has no answer for me. Are there other tests that I should have done? Is there something that wouldn't show up on an MRI that might "blend in" with other tissues? MRI w/o contrast was the only test done so far. Is it worth pushing for a biopsy or something?
