Muscle Cramping

I am 39 years old and healthy.  I started lifting heavy weights again a few years ago.  I was using NO2 and Creatine supplement with protein shakes.  After nearly 5-6 months of this I notice that when I would do normal task; ie: working on my car and turning a bolt by hand, my hands would cramp and I would have to stop and let the cramp go away then continue.  This still happens today and affects all muscles.  I notice it more in the hands though.  Shoveling will cause the hands to cramp/fatigue before anything else.   Repetitious motion causes the cramping.   I have been working on cars for years and I am certain the muscle fatique and cramps happens alot sooner then it ever had before.  I drink plenty of water.  What could be causing this??

Keep us posted.

I am not a fan of these supplements because they can cause problems such as you are having and they can alter metabolic serum levels.

All the best.

I have stopped using the supplements for quite awhile now, but the problem has persisted.  I will go in and get some lab work as suggested on Friday.  I have recently had my urine checked and my kidneys are functioning fine.  I believe I can rule out the "outside" sources like stress and the others.  The symptoms have gone on too long with having changed throughout this time.

Thanks

I will have to look.  I have had the basic blood test done.  I cant find the copy but i think they only check for cholesterol and some other basic things.  Are you suggesting I go in and get the labs done?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
This could be the side effect of the supplements you are taking. Stop the supplements and eat healthy and see if it helps. If this does not help, I would suggest you get the blood levels of the following checked: potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Certain sleep disorders and peripheral nerve disorders due to diabetes or hypothyroidism can also be the cause.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
