Why do i see floaters and colored flashes?

I'm 22 years old and just recently started seeing the floaters and flashes/stars. I'm  just curious what they are and why its happening and if i need to see a Dr. for it. I have suffered from Migraines since i was 12 years old so i am some what use to the floaters and tunnel vision but they went away and started coming back. The floaters are all the time almost a daily basis but only bother me when i walk outside or there is lots of light. Also i have noticed my eyes are starting to take longer to adjust...Like from walking back in from being outside it takes a good 30-45 seconds to even see. I also had a hemorrhage on my optic nerve when i was 15 and i guess that it  healed cause i seen an eye Dr when i was 18 and he said he seen it but it was very small.

Hey Hollie, ive had migraines since 13, and have stars and flashers, and frankly, sorry to disapoint you, but the doctors have told me im going to have to adjust to it.  i take a few extra seconds when walking outside, just say sorry the sun is in my eyes, or if at work on computer, and it happens, i'll say something like just a sec gotta let my eyes adjust to this screen.  my fam knows, most people dont question.  hope this helps!  :-)

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Floaters in the eye are a sign of retinal detachment, ophthalmic migraine, a blow or fall on the head or due to some inflammation. Most floaters never completely disappear. There is no medicine or eye drop that can really cure this. Generally flashes, streaks of lights and star bursts are due to floating vitreous and less commonly due to aura of migraine and or retinal detachment (this must have been ruled out by retina specialists). Nothing can usually be done for this (floating vitreous) and patient has to learn to live with it.  A migraine type called retinal migraine comes with these flashes only in absence of any noticeable headache. You could be having this and this can persist for hours together every day. Discuss with a migraine specialist. Please consult an eye specialist too for this.
Hope this helps. Take care!
