Thoracic Spine pain over a year...mri taken with no slipped disc

I have been having pain on the left side of the thoracic spine for over 1 year now.  I have had an mri and cortozone shots but these have done nothing to help relieve the pain.  The mri didn't show any slipped discs and the doctors had no idea what was wrong.  The pain seems to get worse and I have tried resting, rehabbing, and pain pills prescribed by doctors.  Anybody have any idea what this may be and how to go about healing it?  The pain is very sharp on the upper thoracic; if one presses on the certain point on the left/top of the spine.  The pain radiates up and down the spine about 6 inches all on the thoracic area.  Any ideas would help greatly.  I've even had professional massages but these don't help this pain at all.

Hello, Did you get any relief from your pain.  I have been experiencing the exact same type of pain at about the same area for over a year.  Have been to several Dr., with no help.  They keep giving me muscle relaxant, and pain medication.  They are not helping.  If you found a solution, can you share with me.  I am frustated that no one can find out what is wrong with me.  I need help with this pain.

Thank you.

I've been suffering for months with a sprained (torn) thoracic ligament....sounds like what you have.  I am totally debilitated by it.  I go to work, go home and stay in bed until next day.  I'm going to ask about ultra-sound therapy.   I've been to 9 doctors including specialists and alternative docs and even a shaman,  All kinds of tests, meds. nothing helps.  The only time I'm not in pain is when I'm driving or sleeping.

well being a massage therapist it sounds as if possibly you may be experiencing a trigger point pain referral.....a tight nodule of muscle within your longissimus muscle that tends to refer pain locally or down into the lumbar and sacroiliac region upon activation.....have you looked into this....

Thank you for your response.  I do remember my doctor stick a thumb tac like object into my back in all areas saying that she was checking for a pinched nerve.  She said I would get a sensation or have tingling but I didn't have any feeling except for the tac pricking.  As for how I believe it's in the thoracic is that's where I pointed to the doctors and they said it's the thoracic.  Like I said before, I don't go to doctors very often and don't know much about the insides but I do know that this hurts.  Would a ligament take years to heal?  Does anyone know about Prolotherapy?  I did a google search on my pain and that kept coming up.  Thanks again to any responses.

Thanks for the comment but I have been to two chiropractors and although the manipulation feels good, it does not eliminate the pain I have at all.  I even had a wonderful chiropractic massage but that didn't help this pain either.  i don't know alot about nerves but I was told that a pinched nerve would have shown up on my MRI.  Is this correct?    I am 29 and very heathly and active and although this pain isn't stopping me from doing anything, it is not something I would prefer to live with forever. I had four cortozones shots in my spine and I didn't feel any relief at all.  When someone puts their finger tip into a groove on my top/left side of the upper thoracic, it just about brings me to my knees.  Any ideas of what this may be are much appreciated.

It sounds like a pinched nerve.  Try going to a chiropractor for a spinal manipulation. Don't do the treatments with the little device that is like a finger poking in your back, but go to someone who will physically manipulate your spine.  Good luck
