Sometimes the bump goes down and sometimes it doesn't. Usually it does.
If it is blood and it congeals into a hard lump, it may have to be surgically removed. That is not a very big procedure, however. If you want to drain the blood there is a "window of opportunity" to do so. Once lost, there must be an incision, or the material must be allowed to absorb.
A slow bleed is often the result of poor clotting, which is often a result of vitamin K deficiency or taking aspirin. Taking a simple multivitamin will help.
MD told us to watch for other issues before coming in and did not give us the info on ice pack or anti-inflammatories, just that it was the way the scalp bruises. The bump does not hurt, but I did read where a fellow said he wanted the doc to release the blood early on and his doc said no, it would subside. It only shrunk and the man said he can massage it down, but it comes back. Weird. But thanks, will try ice and ibuprofen...
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Yes a slow bleed into the scalp or a contusion can show up after a week of injury to head. Please consult a doctor to get this examined. Usually this settles down in a week by applying ice pack and taking anti inflammatory. However please consult a doctor first. Take care!
