front thigh pain

I have severe front thigh pain.  I have a l5-s1 herniation.  The surgeon i seen last week said this likley is not the cause of the front thigh pain..What can be causing this.  The pain is so bad I have trouble walking sometimes

Thank you for responding, I see my neurologist in June.  I wil ask him then.  I will not be going through with surgery until i get a second opinion as the front of the thigh pain is just as bad as my back pain and if surgery isnt going to help I dont see the point in letting someone open me up and cut near my spine.

Yes, L5-S1 herniation could be the cause of such a sever pain as this must be compressing the spinal nerve. This would need any one or all of the treatment options like traction, rest, medication and even surgery. Please consult an orthopedic specialist or a neurologist regarding this.
