I showed my Dr today, and initially she looked shocked, then said it was quite common to lose adipose tissue after iron shots, and it was nothing to worry about. Says it has nothing to do with my muscle weakness, it's only fatty tissue and of no concern. I can't find any reference to this phenomenon online and I'm losing a bit of trust here. She seemed to usher me out pretty quickly after she saw it. I'm not sure what to do. Any thoughts?
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Iron shots can cause local allergic reactions which over a period of time can heal as fibrosis. This can cause weakening. Limping can also be due to local nerve injury due to shots. You can try and get a nerve conduction study done. Also physiotherapy will help correct the limp to some extent. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I wish I'd known you. My rear end looks like I was beaten with a bat, and now it's misshapen too! Luckily it happened at a time of life where my behind is not something that ever gets displayed anyway. LOL
One can get permanent skin staining and muscle/tissue damage if the injections are not given properly. There is a specific injection technic that is used to administer this medication; it is called the Z-track method. To add, the injections should be administered in the gluteus medius or gluteus minimus with proper needle length and no more than 5 ml injected into the site.
As an RN, I can proudly say I never discolored or damaged any bottoms giving these injections. :)
