leg itching and bruising

I had a small knot in my leg.  It itched and when I scratched it, I started to bruise.  Today the bruise is a very dark blue color and fairly large.  Why do you think this was caused?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A lump that itched and on scratching bruised could be an insect bite, a tick bite, contact dermatitis or deep vein thrombosis. Please consult a doctor for a confirmed diagnosis.
Hope this helps. Take care!

Hello it was probably a weakening of a vein and they will itch when the pressure of scratching is applied it causes the vein to burst.  It should start absorbing in a few days and the discoloration disappear completely in 7-10 days.   If the area hurts you can apply some ice 10 mins on 10 mins off. Should the area become hot and red around it or you have an increase in pain in your leg when you straighten your leg and pull your toes upward or have someone push your toes upward for you towards your body you need to go see you doctor because you could have a blood clot.  I Hope This Helps!
