possible atrophy and normal emg

For the last 5 weeks I have been having a tightness in my left calf and foot. Not a full blown cramp just very tight. I went to dr and she thought that leg looked smaller than other leg and said possible atrophy. I went for emg  and it was completly normal. My question is does anyone know if you can have atrophy and a clean emg. I don't know if my leg has always been smaller on that left side. what test should I ask for.

I have muscle atrophy in the left leg, and pain has started in the right.  I just had an emg and MRI's(brain and spine) My neurological dr says it is a pinched nerve and he wants to give me some intravenous IV in my back and if that does not work, he wants to insert some kind of pain control thing in my back.  I think he just does not have a clue what is causing my problem, so he is doing what he knows how to do.

Hi i have numerous symptoms which started 3 yrs ago . I have muscle spasms in both feet , I have a gait disorder, myoclonus ( uncontrolable spasms of jerking up and down) when I stand up or attempt to walk. Electrical shooting pains in various parts of my body, balance problems osephagul( not sure how to spell it)  reflux , dry eye syndrome , etc and quite a few more, too many to mention really.
I actualy still see the same neurologist I initially saw 3 yrs ago every 6 months. She actually said that she is not sure what is going on but all my symptoms are neurological in nature. She has prescribed meds to treat my symptoms but said sometimes dx takes many years.  I,m sorry I can't be of more help to you I know its difficult believe me not having any answers for problems. Hi if an emg is a nerve conduction study then the answer to your question is yes! you can have muscle atrophy but a normal emg. I have a neurological dx ( as yet unknown cause) and I have sevre muscle atrophy in both legs. Not really sure about what other tests you could have perhaps someone else will know . take care Crystaly
