sick 56 year old male.

On Sept 11th around evening I had a sharp pain in the right side of my abdomen.  It doubled me over, made me sweat profusely and I am sure I had fever.  The pain wasn't relieved by attempts of bowel movements nor vomiting.  On Sept 9th I drank too many beers and had some on the 10th. I have been drinking beer for years. I didn't drink anything on the 11th.  I was sore for a couple of days and then noticed fluid in my abdomen. It was difficult to sleep in any position.  I was eating and drinking normally while the fluid lessened and moved down to my right foot where I had a gout flare up.  As things appeared to be clearing up on the 22nd, I noticed my stomach wouldn't empty and my bowels weren't moving or passing gas.  I had to vomit to clear my stomach the last few nights to be able to sleep.  I haven't been able to keep even light food or water or juice down the last 36 hours.  Stomach growls but no movement in intestines.  Can you give me some clues as to what is going on?
Thank you.

Sincerely,
Edward

I would agree with xlilangel2528 regarding the majority of what has been written.  Ascites is certainly a possibility, and a bowel obstruction apart from severe pain can present with INCREASED bowel sounds which you describe as your stomach growling.
Please be cautious with anything such as laxatives as if you have a bowel obstruction, then anything that increases the bowel's natural movement when a colon is blocked could well lead to a ruptured bowel and subsequent peritonitis an worse.
As far as alcohol is concerned - you know the answer there and as said above - the toxins in your system can also cause confusion.  The most important thing you should do immediately is go to the Emergency Dept for immediate assessment and treatment

there is a ton of organs on your right side, that could have similar issues that would cause these symptoms such as your appendix, your liver, and your intestines. so it could be numerous things but i would say aside from the constipation (did you take a stool softner for it?) it could be a bowel obstruction.... your gout flared up im sure due to the fact that you consumed alcohol which im sure you know you shouldnt do with gout. as far as the fluid in your abdoman and the swelling in your feet with a history of drinking "for years" i would google "ascities" and compare your symptoms. i would try a stool softner for the constipation and if that doesnt work, id get to your doctor immediately. if it was indeed a bowel obstruction.... you dont want to leave the waste in your body for a long period of time, it is TOXIC afterall. good luck
