Second Guessing Rheumy

Hello, I am wondering in my ongoing quest to find out what has struck me down the last 3 months out of the blue with parasthesias, limb weakness and heavy fatigue in entire body. I have been thru numerous tests and am wondering if I have a bad doc here. My neuro sent me back to my rheumy to look at some inflammation that developed behind the knees and pain, and I felt a bump there too...The rheumy gave me a lecture on how his diagnosis (vague spondylarthropathy, no validation other than sed rate high and joint pain) was the cause of my current debilitating symptoms which the neuro disagrees, but doesn't know either, still researching. I am sensitive to strong meds and only take naprosyn, and had a tough time months back with prednisone, and I didn't want it then. I told this to the rheumy who by now was insulted that I told him the nuero disagreed with his diagnosis, and he continued to be patronizing
and insisted he was right and wasn't going to change his diagnosis...He began to offer a stronger drug to me "Enbrel" to which I said no, I wanted to begin with something not as strong due to my drug sensitivities, and he said, "what's it matter, look how crippled you are now anyway..taking this is not going to make you any worse than already are!" NOw, am I wrong is this guy way out of line, here? I truly felt he was not out for my best interest but to try and sell me "Enbrel." He said, I will give you prednisione then, despite my complaints about it not working, just making me feel sicker. After I got home, his words really upset me, and I wonder if this doc is bad egg?

Wow, thank you for that. I sure learned alot in your replies.
Yes, I have a thread since these mysterious symptoms have started and I am seeking a diagnosis, and also to share or help others as I go through the process with my health issues & trying to find the cause. My family doc sent me to rheumy years ago when I started having traveling pain and constant flareups in my body. It was over his head, and when I go to him now, he just refers me to rheumy.Rheumy, upon my insistence sent me to Neuro, due to my latest leg, head, and arm, neck weakness parasthesias and pain, to the point that I can't walk at times or do exert. I have had major coccyx and SI joint pain lately and believe it has gotten worse and asked for an xray, which my rheumy refused to do as he said it wasn't going to show anything that he didn't know already. What??? That's what he said. (I have had SPine mri to LUmbar area) Initially, we got along very well and I trusted his opinion, but in the last few years, his blaming all my ills on this mysterious "inflammation", and now my current issues, is just gotten me fed up.

After all the testing is done, I think I will need to get a new rheumy...toes have been stepped on mutually.

I'm sorta' lost. Where is your reg-Dr in this? Why were you
seeing Neurologist? I know many things that go on behind the
Dr's doors. They get vacations/kickbacks pushing certain rx's
from the reps. Pharmaceutical Co's often scan in US, for scripts
most written by their clients they left samples at. Easy to ck.
Never tell other MD what other thought. They have a code not
to stomp ea. other. I have an envelope full of rx's never taken
to be filled. Just smile & think 'JERK'! They don't call to ck.
because they don't know where you'd fill-it. If you have to
stay w/ this jerk for Ins. reasons or '?', then they love to
be told 'there maybe something to that'. Sometimes it puffs
them up for the next visit & better communication. Yes, we the
sick ones have to perform sometimes. Dr's also exchange notes/
letters called 'dictations'. These are personal opinions that
arrive abt you pre-appt. Most are un-professional comments. Go
to a new MD w/ all this in mind, say little, let them play doctor. I've gone thru several. When asked how that Enbrel
wk'd, I just said, not like I'd hoped. I have same rx in
envelope! Have you posted dx's & where? Your username sounds
familiar. Dr's get overwk'd/rushed/in ruts & we shouldn't have
to hold their hand but they want to be wealthy & right. Twice
a year I stop at bakery & drop off cookies for staff just
because. After 2 yrs, I get in quick & Dr listens to me as
long as I keep it minimum. I can now suggest what I'd like w/o
getting 'the look'. Yes, I know how to suck-up! I've wk'd for
more MD's than you can count on fingers/toes. I wish you luck.

I think your rhemi is extremely unprofessional and damn right offensive. I would look for another one who listens to what your saying about drug sensitivity and doesn't speak to you in such an offensive discriminatory manner > Hes an ignorent person and Im not surprised you were upset ! I,d have been extremely upset and quite angry as well to be honest. Try and get another Rheumis opinion would be my advice anyway. Wish you all the best Chris
